George Goad, the Grand Rapids Symphonic Band's 2008 Youth Soloist Competition Winner, is a
junior at Rockford High School under the direction of Brian Phillips. He is first chair in the Rockford High School Wind Ensemble as well as first chair in the Grand Rapids Youth Symphony. This year George auditioned and was placed first chair in the MSBOA All-State Orchestra. He has also attended Interlochen Arts Academy and was first chair in their all-state band program. While attending Interlochen, George studied with Rodney Mack.
In addition to trumpet, George takes piano lessons and runs on the Rockford Varsity Track and Cross-Country teams. He also enjoys comedy films and hanging out with his friends. In his spare time, George is a Guitar Hero addict!
Michael and Claudia Goad are George’s parents and he also has two sisters, Katina and Giselle.
As winner of the 2008 GRSB Youth Soloist Competition, George will receive a $1000 scholarship to the college of his choice. Trumpet performance will be George’s major but his choice of college is still undecided.
