She has been playing trombone for seven years and studying privately for five. Hana began her trombone studies with Christopher Shook and currently studies with Dr. Steven Wolfinbarger, Professor of Music at Western Michigan University. She has been a member of the Kalamazoo Junior Symphony Orchestra (KJSO) for four years, where she has been seated principal trombone for the past three years. She has also been a member of the Kalamazoo Junior Symphony Brass Quintet for three years. Her other musical activities have included participation in the local Chamber Music Workshop, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp's Symphonic Orchestra, University of Michigan's All-State Band at Interlochen, Western Michigan University's Seminar Band, and the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association's All-State Orchestra.
Among her many honors, Hana was a winner of the soloist competition held by Bravo!, and her recorded performance was chosen to be played on WMUK Radio's "In Concert" series. She also won the Kalamazoo Concert Band’s Youth Solo Competition in 2006, and during that same year, she competed in the International Trombone Association's (ITA) Solo Competition for 18 and Under and received second place in Birmingham, England. Just recently, she learned that she has been chosen as one of three finalists for the ITA’s Solo Competition for Students 18 and Under for the second year in a row. Hana will compete against the other two finalists at the ITA’s Festival in Las Vegas in May. So far this year, she has placed second in the finals in Washington DC for the US Army Band's National Under 18 Solo Competition and won the KJSO Concerto Competition.
Next fall, Hana will be attending Western Michigan University as a trombone performance major. She looks forward to a career in music, and we look forward to following that career. She is the daughter of Emil & Metka Beloglavec.
